Electric Arches. Ewing's first book, a collection of poetry, prose, and visual art entitled Electric Arches, was published by Haymarket Books on September 12, 2017. Ewing has stated the entire book is based on real-life incidents that have happened to her. Ewing imagines familiar figures in magical circumstances, and identifies everyday objects - hair moisturizer, a spiral notebook - as precious icons. Her visual art is spare, playful and poignant: a cereal-box decoder ring that allows the wearer to understand what Black girls are saying; a teacher's angry, subversive message scrawled on the chalkboard. Eve L. Ewing holds a copy of her debut poetry collection “Electric Arches.” In the introduction to Electric Arches, Eve L. Ewing’s new poetry collection, Ewing tells an anecdote about riding her bike in her Chicago neighborhood as a child, from one end of the block to the other, and describes the way that she would narrate adventures in her head.
